The cost of auto insurance will vary depending on a number of factors, including your age, where you live, the type of vehicles you drive and how good (or bad!) your driving record is. If you are currently insured, that will also likely reduce your cost.

A young single driver with multiple tickets and accidents is likely to pay the highest premium. And conversely, a married driver with a clean driving record will pay less. Of course, the coverage, including liability limits and deductibles will impact the rate.

Specifically, monthly rates could be as low as $30-$40 for some drivers and much much higher for others. The state where you reside will be a major determinant in the price of coverage. While a state such as New Jersey may have fairly high rates, other states such as Ohio will feature lower rates.

To get a specific and accurate quote, an independent broker or a reputable car insurance website will provide prices from multiple carriers which will help you find the best deal. Whether you live in Arizona, Michigan or any other state, the quotes are free.

Rates will vary per individual in California. Rates are based on years driving experience, location, driving record and miles driven annually. We do not use credit in California. With those being the top 4 not necessarily in that order there are other factors to consider. Type of vehicle, occupation or if you are a good student with a 3.0 or better can have an impact on your rates. Other factors to consider better rates are combining home or renters insurance and auto insurance for multi-policy discounts. Multi car is another rating factor and whether your single or married is a rating factor. And of course what are the level of coverage's chosen have a determining factor on your rate. All these things should be discussed with a local independent agent who can shop different insurance carriers to find the right policy with the right coverage's to meet your insurance needs at an affordable premium.

An auto insurance premium is determined by rating factors.  The factors are approved by your state insurance commissioner.  In California the primary rating factors are the year, make and model of the car, the experience of the driver, the driving record of all the members of the household, the limits and coverages selected and the anticipated annual mileage.  There are additional considerations.
