    That depends upon your State. In Texas, you must be insured in-state for your Auto insurance. You are allowed a certain number of days after you've moved here to arrange it, but after that grace period, if your tags and insurance aren't switched, you can be ticketed. Look up your States' requirements at their .gov website for specifics, or contact your current agent for the company procedures for switching/replacing your coverage.

    If you are planning on registering your car in the state in which you live, then it is more than likely that you will be required to show proof of insurance issued in your state. If on the other hand you are just visiting or passing through, your car insurance travels with you throughout all 50 states and U.S Territories as well as Canada.
