Having a job is not a requirement to obtain auto insurance. As long as you have a need for auto insurance and the ability to make the payments you may purchase auto insurance. I would recommend talking to a local agent who can shop multiple companies to find you the best rates and coverage's to fit your needs.

Each state sets its own rules for who can purchase auto insurance. In California, occupation is not even a consideration. Sex is not a consideration either, nor is age. Experience, driving record, mileage, location and the year, make and model, are the primary factors for computing the premium. If you need insurance in California, you can probably get it.
