This is a common question most people have and the answer is yes, you can switch your insurance at any time. There is no mandate which states that you cannot switch your insurance but the question is should you switch your insurance?

There are several things you want to consider before switching your auto insurance. The most common reason people switch their insurance is because of price. You will find that most states file insurance rates in January and June. So keep in mind depending on when you decide to switch your policy you could be hitting a price increase or decrease depending on what the state has filed.

Switching your insurance once or even several times could actually hurt you. Companies are beginning to offer discounts such as loyalty discounts which don’t kick in until you have been with them for so many years. Even though you may be saving $50-$100 switching to another carrier you could be losing a lot more than that by not staying with your current insurance company. You may find loyalty discounts to range from 5%-20% depending on the company which could save you hundreds of dollars.

But every situation is different so be sure to consider when your switching your insurance and what discounts you may or may not be losing.

You can switch your auto policy at any time. The most popular motivation to switch insurance carriers is price. People are looking for the best price for there insurance all the time. Other reasons to switch would be a new car purchase or moving to a new state.

Switching carriers is easy and there are many to choose from. Shopping your auto insurance around is a great idea to compare prices. Using and agent can help you find insurance carriers that you normally would not have access to but going direct to and insurer online is also beneficial cutting out a middle man and getting quotes instantly.

Be sure to check the term dates, is it six months or a year policy? This can effect the way you compare the premiums. You will want to match your old coverage with your new quotes. Make sure the coverages are the same or similar this can prevent a coverage gap where you thought you had coverage. If you new vehicle isn't so new any more you may want to lower the amount of coverage on a particular vehicle. This can help lower your premium on the new policy or you can amend you current one. So while you can switch you insurer at any time do your research and make sure that it works in your favor.
