    Looking at car insurance rates by state, the 2014 model shows North Carolina as the 6th most competitively priced state for auto insurance premiums. Put another way, North Carolina was 46th out of 51 for most expensive auto rates.  The North Carolina Auto Insurance Premium was $1060 which was based off of the average of all 855 vehicles surveyed in the study.  The only states cheaper were Iowa, Idaho, New Hampshire , Maine and Ohio.
