This really specific to the company and the state where you live.  My company gives a discount to an insured that has no dependents.  So, in this case, your car insurance would go up slightly(it's not a very big credit).  Insurance companies are statistics machines, calculating the likelihood of just about anything and converting that into a cost or a surplus.  In our particular case, people with no dependents cost less for the insurance company than people with dependents.  That's it, cold, hard statistics.  Your company may be different.  Find an agent you can trust and ask questions.  If they're a good agent, they'll be happy to spend the time with you to explain how your coverage works.

The presence of a dependent child is not a rating factor for auto insurance in California. The basic rating factors are year, make and model of the vehicle, driving experience and record of all the drivers in the household, number of miles the vehicle travels in a year and the location where the car is garaged.
