Most critical illness plans pay a benefit for any type of internal cancer including breast cancer. You particular plan may pay a reduced benefit for stage 0 or cancer in situ, but a benefit should still be payable.

Read your policy carefully and ask your agent to explain the benefits of your plan.

Many Critical Illness insurance plans exclude cancer in situ. Breast cancer is being caught earlier and earlier, and many cases are DCIS (Ductal Carcinoma In Situ). However, just because they are in situ does not mean that aggressive treatment is not needed. So you need to review your policy to see if breast cancer is covered in its earliest stages. Most critical illness policies do cover breast cancer beyond the DCIS stage.

Check your policy (or policy to be purchased) benefits as not all critical illness plans are built equal.  Although cancer coverage is typically built into a policy, not all stages are covered.  A good rule of thumb however is that any melanoma is covered and cancer in situ is not.
