    Critical illness insurance isn't necessary but it is something to definitely consider.

    More than just a cancer plan, critical illness coverage will provide payment for named "dread disease" conditions including heart attack, stroke, cancer and as many as 8 other conditions. Most pay a lump sum on first diagnosis. Buy a health plan, not a rider to a life policy.
