If you are an employee at a business that has offered Aflac to its employees through a section 125 cafeteria plan ( a tax-advantaged funding method that allows a person to fund their premiums with a portion of their earnings before they obtain "constructive reception" of the money, thus lowering their adjusted gross income and avoiding FICA and FUTA taxes). You are able to obtain short term disability with adjustable "elimination periods"(how long you wait before you start to get your disability payments) and payment periods(how long you get your short term disability for). With Aflac STD you can even return to work and continue 100% of your STD payments as long as you are making less then 80% of what you were previously making. How much you recieve will depend on your earnings, due to the principal of unjust enrichment you are prevented from making a profit from your disability and thus can only suppliment your normal income up to a stated percentage-generally about 70-80%.
