    To evaluate Disability Insurance, you want to be sure to compare similar plans so that you are comparing "apples to apples" price-wise.

    You most likely want to include "own occupation" so that you can be paid if you cannot perform your own job, not just any job.

    You will want a "residual" benefit in case you can work some, but not as many hours as before, or not produce as much as before in the hours that you work, or not make as much for what you do accomplish, due to your disability.

    You want to make sure it lasts as long as you would want, and that you most likely will have enough resources on hand to get you through whatever elimination period you select.
