The controlliong factor is who is the listed as the owner of the policy. If she is then the answer is yes. On the other hand, I know how we men are in that we leave the chore of paying the bills to our wife and then when she goofs we throw our temper tantrum. From the insurance company view point they just want the premium paid. Was the premium paid-yes, or no.

Is this a private policy or employer provided insurance?  If it is a private policy, a policy can be by the owner at any time.  If you have a family plan and wish to take your wife off the policy, you may have to get a new policy rather than being able to change your current one.

If the insurance is employer-provided, during open enrollment, policies can be changed.  In the middle of the plan year, a qualifying event such as marriage, divorce, birth, or change of jobs is the only time a policy can be changed.
