Most US based health insurance plans have out of country coverage. Keep in mind that provider network rules do not apply when traveling out of the country and in some cases you may be required to file your claim directly with the carrier so you can be reimbursed for your out of pocket expenses.

When traveling outside of the US, even for a short time period, it is wise to consider international travel insurance to supplement your existing health plan. In addition to covering some of your deductible and other out of pocket expenses, a good international medical plan will cover things like med evac, return of mortal remains and translation of medical records.

These items are almost never covered by traditional health insurance plans.
