Your employer group health insurance plan and workers compensation medical coverage usually coordinate with the other.

Workers comp covers work related injury and illness.

Group health insurance covers non-work related illness and injury.

Sometimes the two plans will overlap which might result in a delay in paying the claim until the carriers can determine who has primary responsibility.

Depending on the state you live in, Workers compensation insurance and your employer's health insurance plan may work together or completely apart. It can vary by state.

Usually, when injury on the job occurs, all claims related to that injury are handled by the workers compensation insurance which could be a private carrier or in some cases the state workers insurance.

It is not uncommon for billing errors to occur in this process as the employer provided medical insurance is usually different than the workers accident insurance company and billings often get confused. It is very important NOT to ignore any questions that either insurance carrier may have in these situations as if you do, they stop processing your claims, which means these become your bills.
