    The penalty tax for individuals starts out at the greater of $95 per year or 1% of your AGI (adusted gross income). The penalty tax for companies is more complex and higher.

    Each year the fine increases, but that is nominal compared to having to pay out of pocket for a large claim without the benefit of health insurance.
