A drug test is not required for health insurance. Lab tests are an issue when a individual is purchasing life insurance policies that generally have a face value of over $250,000. There are other insurance related issues that can occur from the consumption of controlled substances when they are not being prescribed by a medical doctor, and even then there can be situations that will be of reference- such as medical marijuana being listed as a qualified medical expense (due to the fact that it may be legal in ones state however it is not recognized as such by the federal government).
