A lapse in health insurance occurs when you fail to make prompt premium payments. The insurance company has the right to cancel the policy if they are not receiving payment. You may have to wait for a subsequent open enrollment period to reinstate a lapsed policy.

There is a 30 day grace period to protect policyholders. Make sure you pay your premiums on time.
