    Yes, the liability portion of your homeowners policy would provide coverage.  However, talk to your insurance professional about your policy to be sure that there are not any specific exclusions or limitations that may be triggered due to the breed of your dog.  Some companies do limit or exclude coverage in this way.

    Dog bites are a big deal these days. We read about them all the time. Most insurance carriers will exclude certain breeds of dogs and others may limit the amount of liability coverage. Always consult with your agent as to your specific breed type to see if your covered in the event of a dog bite.

    Dogs are considered to be under the insured’s control and are therefore insured.  The insurance company may exclude certain breeds or dogs that have displayed a tendency to bite and may further limit coverage on any dog.
