Repair to a roof can be covered if the damage was caused by a covered claim such as wind or hail. However, if the roof is old and needs repair due to the fact that it is just getting old, it will not be covered under your homeowner's insurance. And it may be time to get a new roof!

Your homeowner’s will repair or replace your roof if damage is the result of a “specified peril” (i.e. fire.)  Most companies limit recovery on a roof claim to the “actual cash value” of the roof.  That means that the recovery cannot exceed the depreciated value of the roof.  This is because roof life is much shorter than the rest of the house.
