    Your homeowner’s policy covers damage caused by specified perils. The policy lists those perils and they almost always include fire, wind, and hail and can include a laundry list of other perils. The key is that the damage must have been sustained by one of those perils. Excluded perils are generally flood and earthquake. Damage that is the result of years of deterioration is not a covered peril.
