A person with HIV can get life insurance by converting a present term policy into a permanent plan. There also may be group conversions available through an employer.

Also, there are some guarantee-issue plans that possibly may be able to offer coverage. An experienced broker will find any available plans for you.

Being HIV positive makes it very difficult for people to get life insurance. If over age 40, there are some guaranteed issue life insurance policies available, but these provide only a limited amount of coverage. Some of our clients have obtained small policies through credit unions, mailers from small guaranteed issue policies, or other random places. Of course, getting life insurance through one's job is a great option if you can get it. It is very unfortunate that there are not more options. Hopefully this will change in the future.
