As a fare paying passenger? Yes. As a pilot or flight crew? It's going to depend on the insurance company. If you are a pilot or part of a flying crew you want to disclose this upfront during the application process. Some carriers exclude pilots, others charge an extra rate fee and still others have absolutely no problem with it and insure the person as they would anybody else.

Yes, life insurance covers death while a passenger on a plane. Life insurance covers death due to accident and death due to natural causes (illness or old age).

If the person flying is the pilot, and they got their policy while a pilot or studying to be a pilot, they need to have life insurance that covers pilots in order for the policy to pay.
