In some cases with electronic applications, you can be approved at the time of application. For larger amounts it may take 2 weeks after all requirements have been received. That would include all medical evidence, tests and any other reports.

Once the company has all the underwriting information the approval process is usually prompt.

If you would like to work with a local life insurance broker, you could start with a Google search. For example, if you search for: life insurance broker Halifax or life insurance agent Halifax, my name, along with several others, will come up. You can use the same method to find a life insurance broker in your community.

Life insurance approval can take from several minutes to several months. Each policy has what is called "underwriting requirements" based on your age and the face amount of the policy you are applying for. Nonmed policies (policies that have smaller face amounts and do not require an exam) will go into effect much faster than policies whose underwriting requirements include an exam and medical records.

Obviously, taking your exam in a timely fashion will speed up the process. It also helps to provide the complete name and address of all the doctors you have seen in the past 5 years, or since diagnosed with a chronic health condition. Using an experienced broker is important to have a smooth underwriting process and the best possible result.

This depends upon your health and activities. If you are in good health and young, it can take as little as three days. If you are elderly and in poor health, it may take a month. The more doctors you have seen recently and the more medical procedures you have undergone recently, the longer it may take. This is why you want to buy life insurance as soon as you can, while you are still insurable. Thank you. GARY LANE.
