To find out the beneficiary of a life insurance policy, start by calling the company through which the life insurance policy was purchased. The beneficiary written on the original policy may have changed since the policy was taken out, and agents do not have to be told when beneficiaries are changed. If there is not a record of a beneficiary change stored with the actual policy, the only way to know the most current beneficiary designation is to call the insurance company.
