There are many companies that will underwrite a diabetic these days. A few decades ago a diabetic was a straight decline. Times have changed, there is a broad range of diabetics who have great control to very poor. Diabetics are reviewed on an individual basis to give opportunty for those diabetics who have good control a chance to get the best possible premium.

I would suggest finding an independent agent who has access to several companies and do a pre-underwriting questionnaire. That way your information can be presented to several underwriters at different companies and the results come back to you to choose from.
There is a significant advantage in this method over a single carrier agent.

If you are looking for whole-life insurance, many of the simplified issue carriers will give preferred rates to diabetics even if they take insulin.

Usually to qualify for a preferred rate you can't have used insulin prior to the age of 40 and can't have ever been in a diabetic coma or had other complications.

There are many agents who specialize with simplified issue whole-life or "final expense life insurance." I train agents all over the country and diabetics are one of the target markets that we look for and can help. You should get mailers advertising final expense insurance if you are between the ages of 50-85. Just reply to one of those or look in the internet for an agent in your town.

Using a life insurance agency that specializes in "impaired risk" life insurance is a good way to make sure that you are getting the best possible diabetic life insurance rate.

One's method of diabetic treatment, history of A1C's, age at diagnosis, whether there are complications from diabetes, weight, tobacco use, and having additional health conditions all have a huge bearing on what medically underwritten policy the person with diabetes can qualify for, and how much he/she will pay. Having specialized in diabetic life insurance for over 10 years, I have found that there are no simple rules or tricks for getting someone the best price. You really have to know what you are doing.

If just looking for a small policy with no exam, there are also lots of choices, and again, diabetic control can make a big difference in what you policy you qualify for and what price you will pay.

It is very difficult to sift through all that without the assistance of an experienced, impaired risk life insurance agent who is able to shop a number of carriers to find you the most affordable diabetes life insurance rate.
