    You need life insurance if you have someone you care about who would suffer financially as the result of your death, and you are unable to save up enough in your lifetime to prevent that. Even if you do save it up, most of us have no way of knowing if those funds will have to go to something else before we die. Life Insurance does not pay the death benefit until death, so is a good way to provide for those we love after we are unable to do so.
