You would need Long Term Care Insurance if you were no longer able to care for yourself and wanted to receive your care in your home or other location besides a nursing home. Medicare will pay for home health care or nursing home care if there is a need for skilled nursing services. If you need assistance with dressing and showering but don't need IV's, physical therapy, speech therapy, or other skilled nursing care, Medicare will not pay for in home services, adult day care, assisted living, or nursing home. Long Term Care insurance will pay for all those options if you are unable to perform 2 or 3 activities of daily living.
