Medicare was not designed to cover all of your medical costs. There are some deductibles and coinsurance costs. Generally, for most things, after the deductible is met, your cost will be about 20%. If you are comfortable with that exposure, which has the potential to run into 10's of thousands of dollars, then you don't need a Medigap policy.

However, Medigap policies are very affordable and can reduce your exposure to near zero. Therefore, it makes sense for most people to choose a good Medigap policy.
