    If you are on Medicare and are currently covered by Medicare parts A & B then you should always have the card in your wallet. You need it anytime you go to the doctor or hospital. If you are covered by Medicare Part C (Medicare Advantage) you do not need to carry your Medicare card because your private health insurance company takes the place of Medicare.

    For protection against medical identity theft, you should consider leaving your Medicare card at home.

    Instead, carry a copy of your Medicare card with you and blot out the last 4 digits of your Social Security Number. Leave your original Medicare card at home and carry the duplicate.
