   If your father has a Humana Medicare Advantage Plan I feel confident in telling you the answer to your question is No. If your father has a Medicare Supplement policy he may get Medicare under Part B to pay some on his chair. Certainly not the whole cost of the chair. Medicare will only cover the seat lift mechanism not the chair itself. In order for Medicare to pay for the seat lift mechanism the doctor prescribing the chair must justify to Medicare that the lift chair is medically necessary. That is easier said than done with Medicare.

   The Medicare Advantage plan with Humana will cover durable medical equipment (DME) at 80% just like Original Medicare will cover it. The trick is in the details as Steve Adlman commented about previously. The biggest problem I see clients have is they try to get the medical equipment from a supplies that does not participate with Original Medicare or are not participating with the Medicare Advantage Plan the client has. (If they have an Advantage plan instead of Original Medicare) Obtaining Medical necessity takes time but is usually approved as the physicians know the criteria needed to get approval.
