LMRP stand for Local Medical Review Policy. LMRP's outline how contractors will review Medicare claims to make sure they meet Medicare coverage requirements. As such, LMRP's assists Medicare providers, physicians and suppliers in submitting correct claims for payment.

Starting in December 2003, Medicare contractors were required to convert their LMRP's to LCD's, or "Local Coverage Determinations". LCD's are limited to provisions that establish clinical circumstances when services are considered to be reasonable and necessary.
