Most Medicare Supplement plans do not include prescription coverage. Only some of the old, no longer offered plans include it. If prescription drug coverage is a concern, a stand alone prescription drug plan can be used as well as a Medicare Supplement policy.

Another alternative may be a Medicare Advantage plan that includes drug coverage. Be sure to consult with an agent certified to represent Medicare Advantage plans. There are some significant differences between a supplemental plan and a Medicare Advantage plan.

The Medicare Plans that cover prescriptions are the Medicare Part D Plans. There are many of them. Also some Medicare Part C Advantage Plans include the Part D coverage.

There is only one right way to choose one. You or your insurance broker can go to Medicare's website and type in all your current prescriptions. The website will show you the choices that include your drugs in their formulary.

You need to do this every year because the formulary will often change. Your prescriptions may also change.
