Best means different things to different people. To some people best means lowest price. To others it means it accepts their health conditions when other companies might decline you.

I'm going to assume that by best you mean the highest level of coverage regardless of price. That is an easy question to answer. The Plan F Medicare Supplement is the highest level of coverage you can get of all Medicare Supplements. Many companies sell it and they all sell exactly the same thing (required by law) but they do not charge the same price.

Have your insurance broker show you the rate for all the top companies so you can buy your Plan F cheaper and save. Have him also explain Plans G and plan N which can also be a better value for many people.

Plan F offers the most comprehensive coverage of the new standardized plans.

Plan G offers the best over value when compared to Plan F.

Plan N or High Deductible plan F will offer the lowest over all premium, but with that you may take on additional out of pocket risk.

Plan selection can also be influenced by the time of year you are switching. Switch to Plan G at or soon after the beginning of the year. If you are in the middle of the year and have plan F, it may be better to stay with Plan F.

Each situation is different and that's why it's important to work with a broker.

Medicare pays about 80% of your approved Medicare Part A and Part B claims.

You are responsible for the balance.

Without a good Medicare supplement insurance plan in place, you could be expected to pay thousands of dollars out of your pocket for the unpaid balance after Medicare pays their portion
