According to Heritage.org, Obamacare cuts $716 billion from Medicare from 2013 - 2022. Most of the cuts come in the form of reduced payment for hospital services ($260 billion), reduced funding for Medicare Advantage ($156 billion) and reduced payment to charity hospitals ($145 billion).

All of these cuts combined mean limited access to medical providers, fewer Advantage choices, higher Part D premiums and higher Part D out of pocket.

The cuts are real, and from what I see, the carriers are working to cut their costs in some creative ways. This can be a benefit for those among us that have neglected their health and fitness, or just need a little boost. For instance, fitness programs can now be an included benefit in Medicare Advantage Plans. Some carriers are giving gift cards to get your screenings done. Smoking and obesity education are often available. Yes, a more fit population lowers the cost for the carrier, but so what!
Why not take advantage of their programs, take some initiative and get some healthier life choices. Life is not a dress rehearsal, so make the most of your life by being as healthy as your age and abilities allow. Check out these new benefits, or call your agent to find out what supplemental programs are offered by your carrier.
The cuts are not going away, so the healthier you are, the less you will feel the financial pinch of those cuts. Like your mom said, "eat your vegetables!"
