The coverage you have on your policy when you rent a car may extend over to that rental. However, it is best to discuss this with your Insurance Professional in order to understand completely the specific terms and conditions of your policy. Another thing to keep in mind is to check with your credit card company as well. Many of the majors include a benefit that would pay up to $500 in damages to a car rented on that card. If you have this benefit, it would probably be enough to cover the deductible on your auto policy.

Your auto insurance will cover you when you rent a car with the same coverage's you currently carry on your personal auto policy. All rules, coverage's deductibles and limits apply. A rental car is considered a temporary substitute vehicle. Keep in mind this must be a vehicle of the private passenger type, not U-hauls or commercial vehicles. Also renting a vehicle does not give you permission to loan the vehicle to another party as all operators must be listed on the rental agreement. I recommend you call your insurance carrier before renting a vehicle to make sure your policy coverage's are adequate.
