Vehicles are given price group symbols which is a number that works as a rating factor for vehicles These numbers are based in large part on performance and how well a vehicle does in an accident and the costs that may potentially follow. I'm pretty sure performance is not an issue with a smart car but while I do not know for certain my experience tells me anytime a smart car is in an accident it's probably a total. Since the car has not been out for a real long time experience may change symbol of the vehicle.
