It is difficult to answer that question without some basic information such as home zip code and birthdate. There are now 4 tiers of health insurance: bronze, silver, gold and platinum.

The Gold and Platinum plans are considered better health insurance because they have lower or no deductibles, lower co-pays, lower co-insurance and lower annual out-of-pocket maximums.

The cost could be $250 a month for someone in their 20's to $750 a month for someone in their 60's. Rates are based on your age, where you live, and what type of health plan you buy.

If you purchase your own health insurance (called an Individual/family plan), it is rated according to your age, gender, location (county or state), tobacco usage, and the family members that you wish to cover. Currently, a rate-up can be added for certain pre-existing conditions, but those rate-ups are not allowed after 1/1/2014. The cost usually goes down if you choose a lower deductible or lesser coverage. However, cheaper plans are not always better. Be sure to contact a licensed agent in your state who specializes in health insurance to help you select the plan that fits your needs and your budget.
