Homeowners insurance does not cover damage from Flood. Actually it specifically excludes the peril "flood". Flood is defined as, "A general and temporary condition of partial or complete inundation of 2 or more acres of normally dry land area from inland or tidal waters or unusual and rapid accumulation or runoff of surface waters from any source." A pipe burst is not considered a flood although your home may be "flooded" with water. A general rule is anytime water enters your basement form the outside of the home it is considered a "flood" unless it is from a water back up of a sewer or drain. Hope this answer helps you.

If this question is referring to flood as in rising water then a homeowners policy will not cover flood damage. Only a flood policy will give you this coverage. If the so called flood was just a bursting pipe in the home then this type of loss would be covered by your homeowners policy.
