Homeowners policies contain a specific exclusion for the peril "Flood". Flood is defined as , "A flood is a general and temporary condition where two or more acres of normally dry land or two or more properties are inundated by water or mudflow." Maybe people confuse "flood" as a peril as compared to "flooding" of a basement or floor. If, for example, a pipe were to burst and "flood" the basement that would be a covered loss under a Standard HO-3 Homeowners Insurance Policy. It would cover the damage to the dwelling and your contents but not the cost to replace the pipe itself. Hope this helps

In a word, NO, homeowners insurance does not in any way cover loss due to flooding. Only Flood Insurance will offer the protection you and your family need in the event that you face damage to your home and personal belongings as a result of a flood. Talk to your Insurance Professional and visit "FloodSmart.gov" for more information.

Home Owners Insurance DOES NOT COVER FLOODING. Depending what "flood plain your home is located you can purchase flood insurance reasonably or if you are in a high risk area for flooding your vacation plans may have to be changed. Under no circumstances should you be assuming this risk and please also remember EARTHQUAKE DAMAGE IS NOT COVERED BY HOMEOWNERS
