SAGA Home Insurance is a foreign company doing business in the U. S. that supposedly caters to the over 50 market. The first question I would have is the cultural differences that could be built into the policy that you would not know about until you had a claim. The marketing "over 50" concept is an obvious push to appeal to the more established individual that has assets and therefore insuring a more expensive home. Companies like CHUBB, Hartford, and certainly State Farm has not failed to recognize that market. A foreign company would really have to compete for my business and they would have to convince me that there policies incorporate the values we expect in the U. S.. Am I saying that the policies are bad-no, not at all. I am saying you are going to do your due diligence if you decide to spend your money with a foreign company. What guarantees do you have that a policy dispute you may have can be successfully negotiated when you are dealing with a foreign company. Contrast that against your ability to appeal the decision of a U S Company direct to your DOI vs. having to hire an attorney.
