My daughter's policy was purchased when she was 1 year old. You can't be young forever, but you can be healthy forever. Your health and rate, are locked in the moment the policy becomes active. This does a couple of things. First, you cannot be dropped, as long as you pay your premium, and second, your rates will never be lower. Third, many policies allow you to purchase more insurance, at critical times of your life, no matter your health. Life insurance is a gift of love. None of us knows the last day we will be on earth. People die at all ages, and life insurance is priced according to the risk. Yes, at a young age, your chances of survival for many years are great, but who does not know of some unfortunate young person who has passed before their time.

Whenever there is a potential for financial loss or debt to be repaid if you were to die today, then you should purchase the proper amount of life insurance.

Life insurance should be purchased when your health is good, if possible. That is when you can get the lowest rates. However, many people are born with health conditions that prevent them from qualifying for the best rates, and many other people do not think of purchasing life insurance until a health scare arises. While they will pay more, that is no reason to avoid getting life insurance. If anything, persons with poor health need it more, and appreciate whatever protection they can leave their loved ones.
