MetLife is the largest life insurance company in the US on nearly every measure. At one time, in the 1930s, MetLife was the largest company in the world. Their institutional business is enormous. They dominate in most areas of the life insurance business. Prudential by most measures is number 2 followed by New York Life, TIAA-CREF and Lincoln Financial Group.
