Great question! The aquarium itself, and the equipment to keep it running should fall under your coverage, but where you may find it not covered would be the things inside the aquarium. Your insurance company will not be too likely to replace your expensive coral, or the value of the fish you put into the aquarium. You will also want to specifically ask about the coverage should it break, and the water cause damage that could be claimed. I have had friends that have had riders added to their policies to cover their elaborate salt water setups, and happily paid the extra cost. I hope that helps. Thank you for asking!

I cannot see an exclusion for aquariums. There is an exclusion for the fish inside the aquarium. Those fish are not covered. The damage to the aquarium would have to be from a listed “peril” but on most renters’ policies the list is comprehensive. The only reservation that I would have would be a leaking aquarium. Damage caused by leaks that are not sudden is not always covered.
