Car insurance rates for convertibles will vary, depending on the value of the vehicle, where you live, your driving record, and what discounts are applied.

Since many convertibles are more expensive than other vehicles, rates are sometimes a bit higher. But there are many low-insurance-priced options that you'll definitely enjoy driving.

LIVE answer provided by: Ed Harris - Premier car insurance broker since 1980 and owner of several top-rated auto websites that provide the lowest available rates.

Not necessarily because there are many rating factors that your company uses in order to develop the proper rate to reflect the risk they are insuring.  What may affect the rate is the value of the car, your driving record, your credit history, the area in which you live, etc.  Further, auto premiums can be very effectively managed by making sure you are talking advantage of all the available discounts that your company has to offer.

That is an excellent question! The answer is most likely, but not always. The factors in determining whether it will, are: The price of the car ; ( the more expensive the car, the more expensive the coverage) the make and model; ( repairing a 65 Mustang will be more expensive than repairing your 2002 Mustang, for example); and your driving record. Statistically, sports cars are more expensive policies than your family car will be, because you don't have the theft issues, speeding tickets, or accident claims that you will have in your sedate family car.  But if you are a safe driver, with a great driving record, you should be able to find a policy that works for you. Thanks for asking!
