    The average cost for an individual Long Term Disability policy is about 1% to 3% of your annual salary. The more bells and whistles you add onto your policy, the higher it will cost. Some features, like residual and own occupation, are worth it. Others, such as a very short elimination period, may not be worth the extra cost.
