    Most health insurance plans will not cover artificial insemination, or any other infertility treatment. These procedures are considered elective. Sixteen states have mandates requiring plans to cover certain infertility treatments. Each state law is different.

    The laws primarily apply to group health plans issued in the state. If your employer is headquartered in a mandate state that includes artificial insemination, there is a possibility AI is covered.
