FEGLI stands for Federal Employees' Group Life Insurance. It was established by the federal government in 1954. FEGLI Basis Life Insurance is the amount of group term life insurance you are automatically enrolled in when you begin your job with the federal government. You pay 2/3 of the cost and the government pays 1/3. Optional life insurance can be added to your basic policy, and you would pay the full cost of that.
