   I am not sure what state you are in But In Montana If someone gives you permission to drive you are covered for the liability damage. If you have no insurable interest in the auto you can Not insure the care. Now if you are both living in the same house you both can be on the same policy. Check with your state laws.  In Many states the insurance follows the car 1st then the driver so If your name is not on the title the title owner is responsible 1st your insurance would be send in the event of and accident.
