It depends. Mild cases with little or no difficulty with activities of daily living are likely insurable. If in remission, the longer the remission the better the offer will be.

Where the disease is either stable or progressing slowly, a rated offer can usually be obtained in moderate cases with some muscle weakness, difficulty walking, and moderate difficulty with activities of daily living. However it may not be possible to obtain an offer in later stages, with severe cases or where the disease is progressing rapidly.

Offers from insurers may vary so consult with a life insurance professional who can shop the market for the best results.

Our agency specializes in life insurance for people with Multiple Sclerosis, and we find that they are often very discouraged by their experiences in trying to find get insurance. They say it is a breath of fresh air to talk to agents who understand their disease and know what options are available for each type of MS. So my number one answer to this question is yes, just make sure you go to someone who specializes in MS life insurance.

Whether your MS is relapsing remitting or one of the progressive types will be the first indicator of whether you can get a medically underwritten policy. If progressive, there are a number of No Exam policies available. If in a wheelchair or needing help with ADL's, guaranteed issue is the only choice.

Relapsing remitting MS with minimal to moderate symptoms, stable and effective treatment, able to work (although being on DI will not matter in some cases), and no large effect on memory will result in a policy rated Standard to table 4 with the carriers we find best for multiple sclerosis life insurance.

Two years ago I featured a week long series on Women Against MS on my daily financial talk show, The Business Insurance Zone. On one of the episodes, we outlined the stages of MS. The stages of MS are important to life insurance underwriters to categorize the underwriting offer. A preliminary discussion with a life insurance professional can help determine whether to seek coverage and receive a non binding estimation of the cost.

Yes, most people can get life insurance while having Multiple Sclerosis. As you know, there is such a wide range of symptoms, from virtually having no impairments, to having to be confined to bed. So the type of life insurance you can get with MS depends on your own situation. If you have relapsing remitting MS and are still able to work full time, you should be able to get a medically underwritten policy at a reasonable price. If you are at the other extreme of needing assistance with ADL's, you can get guaranteed issue life insurance if you fit those age guidelines.

It is important to use a life insurance agent that understands multiple sclerosis underwriting, and carries a wide range of products, to get your most affordable MS life insurance.
