Although soldiers who experience loss of life while on active duty or from an act of war would not be covered by life insurance aquired in the public market place; they would be covered by life insurance if death occurs between tours of duty, before going into or after leaving active duty. The governent and your particular military branch may have some kind of program for those on active duty.

Soldiers can get life insurance through SGLI (Servicemembers Group Life Insurance). In fact, soldiers are automatically issued the maximum amount of SGLI life insurance coverage of $400,000 when they enter the service. There is a small cost to the soldier being insured. If you do not want that much, you can reduce the face amount by increments of $50,000 or decide not to purchase it altogether.

Soldiers can get Life Insurance.  SGLI and through at least one company in the public sector.  Here is the deal...  Are they in what is considered a "hot zone".  I have been able to get Life Insurance for soldiers who are on active duty serving on what is considered the front line as well but will come down to what their job is.  MP's are pretty easy.  Infantry is more difficult but not impossible.

You will need to talk to your adviser to determine if coverage will be made available to you and how they will be rated.
