Joint Life is a very good policy for some situations.  It will allow both parties, usually husband and wife to be covered under one plan.  When the first person dies the surviving partner usually has an option of purchasing a separate policy regardless of health.  It could be very expensive however depending on the age of the surviving spouse.  My opinion is that you are better off with two separate policies.
